The VFW's Teacher of the Year program is aimed at recognizing teachers and providing youth with the opportunity to learn more about our rich history, traditions and the roles our veterans have had in creating and shaping America, according to the national website. Teachers at the elementary, middle and high school levels are eligible to be recognized. Prime candidates for this award include teachers who promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism.
